# /configure

Get the link to configure the bot on the website.

`/configure` hands you a button that opens the dashboard on the server you ran it in, so you do not have to find the server in a list first.

```
/configure
```

**Who can run it:** administrators by default, and only inside a server. It has no options. See [who can run `/configure` and `/setup`](/commands/bot-commands.md#who-can-run-configure-and-setup) to give it to other roles.

## What the reply contains

The reply points you at the button, and tells you that `/setup server` can create some basic counters without leaving Discord. That is a real command mention: click it and Discord fills the command in for you.

The **Go to dashboard** button opens the server's page on the dashboard, with its channels and settings already loaded. On a [self-hosted bot](/self-hosting/self-hosting.md) it points at your own website address instead, see [Configuration](/self-hosting/configuration.md).

{% hint style="info" %}
You need to be logged in on the dashboard with the same Discord account, and you need Manage Server on that server, before the page will let you change anything.
{% endhint %}

[`/setup`](/commands/setup.md) creates a ready-made set of counters; `/configure` opens the dashboard, where you can edit them and create any other counter.

<details>

<summary>Technical details</summary>

* Reply and button strings live under `interaction.commands.configure` in the locale files.
* The button URL is `<WEBSITE_URL>/dashboard/servers/<guild id>`, built from `env.WEBSITE_URL`. `/info` uses `OFFICIAL_WEBSITE_URL` instead, so the two can point at different sites on a self-hosted bot.
* `WEBSITE_URL` has no default and must be set when self-hosting; `.env.example` ships `http://localhost:3000`.
* The `/setup server` mention is built at runtime from the registered command id of this bot instance, so it stays clickable and follows the reader's language. If the id cannot be fetched the command throws and the reply becomes the **ERROR!** embed.
* The handler performs no permission check of its own beyond refusing to run outside a guild.
